Peter Taylor has an envied reputation as one of Australia’s finest and most creative calligraphers, illuminators and lettering artists, with three books on the subject to his credit, but he also works in a wide range of other media and writes for children and adults, too.
World Expo’88 commissioned one of his handmade books to give to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at its opening, and his work hangs in the Queensland Parliament and has been exhibited across the world.
All Peter’s artwork is created traditionally by hand, and occasionally he even makes his own paper. His clients include private individuals, small businesses, major corporations and book publishers.
Peter originally trained as a biologist and taught science, art and photography in schools. He is still a Registered Teacher and is always delighted to take part in residencies and give talks, courses, workshops and private tuition in calligraphy and all the art techniques he uses, including paper engineering and artist’s book making, to adults and children of all ages.
In his spare time, Peter says he really will eat less chocolate, spend fewer hours on the internet and return to enjoying gardening, hiking and photography.
